Cairo-based photographer Nourhan Ebrahim focuses on structure, pattern and the concept of beauty in her art practice. She first found herself fascinated by nature as a child and found comfort in exploring details around her.
Photography was always prominent, working in commercial photography for 4 years. She has since used her artistic practice to explore and express her familiarity with nature through macro photography.
Ebrahim’s work has now been exhibited multiple times in Cairo. Her style is recognizable but every image is unique, often seeking out the surreal side of everyday objects through its close up nature.
Through her practice, she aims to inspire people, causing a moment of calmness, clarity or even destruction from their own brain, an opportunity to experience nature through objects we see everyday but never really appreciate its beauty and structure giving nature the dedication and respect it deserves. She states that she wants her artwork to be ‘a chance to catch your breath and wonder’.
‘Within this chaotic, messy world we live in, I want my artwork to be a chance to catch your breath and wonder. I've experimented in all kinds and fields of photography but always returned to nature photography. The idea of beauty in the present has always been interesting to me, what do we find beautiful? and Why? Are we really living in the present? Are we aware of the world we live in? Or do we live by our ancestors' vision of the world?
My goal is to make photographs that draw viewers to meditate. A focus on details keeps us in the present and gives us a chance to ask questions about stuff we already know but never see it that way or ever really take a look at it.
I've always seen tiny details with my bare eyes and that gave me a brief moment of peace and quiet since I was little. This exploration of the overlooked helps me engage more deeply with where I am in space and time.’
