Born in 1992 in Zaragoza (Spain), Macarena Pinilla is an artist that works with the idea of reconciliation between the essence of the human being and the natural environment. From an existentialist approach her work studies nature as a reflection of the authenticity and freedom sometimes absent in modern society. Her intention is to develop an environmental consciousness in the observer through the immersion in nature. Her paintings reveal impressions that transcend from lived experiences creating a bond with the observer through natural pigments present in abstract landscapes, lighting behaviour, organic forms and human figures.
Ponce’s work is a representation of the essence of nature intertwined with our human essence. Through landscapes, elements as water or air, organic shapes and human silhouettes she intends to bring the observer closer to the natural environment. This creates an awareness of the magnitude of our planet, the resources that we are provided with, life energy itself and the idea of belonging through an abstract representation. Abstract artwork gives more importance to the essential; of how nature (in this case) makes us feel more in the present moment and how, as we spend more time surrounded by it, we start growing a level of appreciation and love. Ponce has explored connection in nature and biomimicry in product design. This has allowed her to develop art projects revealing more visual and psychological aspects of nature, based on biological research.
