Jess Lewis

Jess Lewis is a recent graduate of Northampton’s Fine Art Painting and drawing program and is currently based in Gloucestershire.

Jess primarily works with black and white analogue photography and uses oil paints to translate her images onto canvas. The intent with her oil paintings is to represent not a clean and detailed image, but rather to display human interference.

Jess’ current practice embodies the act of looking by dealing with layeredreflections of interior spaces. The exclusion of any direct human presence is intentional, only allowing hints and suggestions of inhabitancy, placing the viewer in the painting.

This residency has provided a new angle of exploration, working with pre-existing reflections throughout history to attempt to understand a space that no longer wholly exists.
