Nature versus man.
Through the work "We all Disappear When we Play" Toye shows the natural organic movement with the sleek human architecture. The power we think we have in our hands as human beings, architecturally, overshadows nature and the wavering of the established values, organically. We think we are able to maintain this, but we cannot avoid the fact that we as human beings have to question the society that exists now. We are pushed into plain language to change our mindset. Examples such as the climate crisis and the coronavirus pandemic confronts us with the fact that we absolutely cannot always have everything under control, making us insecure and afraid.
Is the reality we see as the only truth in fact truthful? Are we not compelled by the organic nature to face our rigid architectural humanity?
Evy Toye expresses our belief in the unshakable presence of humanity through the organic, namely nature, that seems to be taken over by the rigidly human. But is this really the case? Is nature subject to human or are we subject to nature?
As a child, Toye felt that drawing and painting was a language to better understand the world.
They later on studied a Visual Arts course at the VTI in Kortrijk and after studying cermaics, rediscovered a passion for painting at the Art Academy AHA! in Harelbeke.
In 2019, Toye won the Fine Arts Georges d'Heedene prize from the municipality of Zulte with the painting 'Coupé'. In 2020 they were also selected for the open call Belgicart of Center for Fine Arts Bozar.
